PDG Bob Grill, President of Disaster Aid, USA, spoke on his group's activities that are similar to Shelter Box but more economical. The mission is to provide shelter, clean water and life saving equipment for survivors of natural and man-made disasters worldwide. A Family Survival Pack includes a large, durable family tent, cook stove, pots and pans, dishes, eating utensils, water jugs, and tools all packed in a large, sturdy plastic box in Rotary colors of gold and blue. All of this costs just $750. A Sawyer water filter is available for just $55 and will provide a family with 200 gallons of safe drinking water each day. Clean water saves lives. To donate or to learn more go to disasteraidusa.com.
Hank McCann introduced Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden who had very complimentary things to say about one another. Capt. Biden served under Gen. McCann in the DE National Guard. AG Biden spoke about the S & L crisis stating there was plenty of blame to be spread around. He also talked about child advocacy saying that everyone is responsible for reporting anything they see that could be abuse. When asked about the Sussex County Sheriff controversy, he laughed and said he thought he would end his talk without that question being asked. Thanks to Charlene for providing this report and to Helen Kruger for the photo. Attorney General Biden is pictured at left with President Bernice Edwards.
About a dozen members met on March 15th for the second session of the club's strategic planning led by past president and professional trainer Wes Perkins. The process has helped us focus our efforts rather than continuing to try to be all things to all people. This is an ongoing process that will lead to a three to five year plan that will greatly aid in continuity from year to year. Wes used the SPOT Matrix process to help us identify our strengths, problems, opportunities and threats. That's Wes with the SPOT Matrix.

Amy Wilburn and Lauren Price gave a "tag team" presentation concerning the plight of abused and
neglected children. Amy talked about the Child Placement Review Board that exists as an independent state agency to evaluate the plans for the care of foster children. Lauren talked about CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) who are appointed by a Family Court judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the court system. Both programs are recruiting volunteers. To learn more go to www.casa.courts.delaware.gov or courts.delaware.gov/cprb/ Lauren is pictured left and Amy at right.
Todd Lawson, Sussex County Administrator, shared some very good news concerning the local economy. Projects mentioned include Milford's Sea Watch Intl. adding a third shift (60 new jobs) and the dredging of the upper portion of the Nanticoke River to permit barge traffic of agricultural products, sand and soil (one barge load equals 1000 18 wheelers). But the project that got the most attention was the Sussex County Airport's 1000 foot runway extension. Lawson said most people do not realize how much this will mean to Georgetown economically in terms of new jobs, gross revenue (projected $13.2 million annually) and tax revenue (nearly $1.5 million annually). The first 500 foot extension will begin this summer with the second portion beginning in 2014. The second phase will also include the realignment of Park Avenue. Mr. Lawson is pictured with Judy Dean at left. PDG Roger Clavette is in the background.
